To Build My Own
I’ve written a lot of articles about ideas for becoming more self-reliant, but I think it is time that I start to show how I have personally applied the principles of self-reliance in my own life. One such way is how I recently decided to self-publish an ebook with ibooks author.
Have you had ideas of authorship, but have only been successful at talking yourself out of it so far?
That was the boat I was in. Until, one morning I said to myself (and to my wife), “I am going to publish a book today.”
Oh, I had started before, but never finished. I had a few book ideas that were partially developed, but nothing for sure. I had always tried for perfection, but never arrived. I wanted the world, but wouldn’t accept a continent. Until this time. This time, I set my goal to publish one small booklet that was a complete idea and had a great value.
Turning to What I Had Already Finished
So, I turned to a stack of poetry I had already written. This would allow me to meet my goal of “publishing today” because I wouldn’t have to write anything from scratch.
I edited my poems for clarity and readability. I organized them into a booklet using iBooks Author. And I published them via iTunes Connect and iTunes Producer that very day. I accomplished a goal I had been striving for over a several year period simply by decreasing the size of the bite. Instead of trying to swallow the pie whole, I cut off a little piece. That did the trick.
Coming up I will write an article about how to publish an ebook with iBooks Author. But, this current article is to showcase just a few of the really cool things you can do using iBooks Author.
One awesome feature is the ability to include audio (and video) in the book. This picture is of the audio player that is included in one chapter of the book. This book is a book of poetry and this audio file is a song that has this specific poem as the lyrics, so the reader can listen to the song and read the poem to follow along. I LOVE this feature.
Another cool feature is the ability to set your own pricing. I published my book in all 51 countries that have an iBooks Store. I set my price to $0.99 and the system automatically adjusted the price to reflect he nearest equivalent in each country.
In the United States, it is $0.99. In the UK, it is $0.49. Of course, you can offer your book for free too. Free books get downloaded at much higher rates, but I felt I was offering something of unique value (with a song included with the book), so I decided to price my book at $0.99.
I have now accomplished a goal I have been after for years. It is a really good feeling. It is a step in the right direction. And that is what self-reliance is all about.
